A

Armature

  • The portion of a motor, generator or alternator, that carries the main or AC current.
  • The moving part of a solenoid or relay.

Atom

A basis element of all things. Consist of electrons and neutrons.

auto

a combining form meaning “self,” “same,” “spontaneous,” used in the formation of compound words:

C

Capacitive Reactance

Opposition to current flow caused by a capacitor when an AC supply is used.

Strangely enough the higher the frequency the lower the capacitive reactance.

Centrifugal Switch

A centrifugal switch is an electric switch that operates using the centrifugal force created from a rotating shaft.

coil

Set of windings made up of turns.

Core

Magnetic path for flux.

Current

Rate of flow of electricity.

Like water flowing through pipes, the rate of flow must be the same at all points along a path. If there are branches the flow is divided among the branches and the path of least resistance carries the most current.

Get your head around this concept. Not knowing this will fuck you up for so many other things. Learn how t measure it in all parts of a circuit. Sleep with it under your pillow if you have to. Understanding Voltage and Current will give you Power.

E

eddy

circular motion of current

Electrical Pressure

The definition of Voltage. Also sometimes referred to as "potential difference"

Its the electrical pressure that pushes electrons through a conductor forming what we describe as current.

The more Electrical Pressure (Voltage) you apply to a circuit the more current can flow
